After retiring in rural New Hampshire, there were not many things outside the home that one could do to keep busy. My daughter suggested that I start writing as I had always said I would do after retirement.
I have always enjoyed reading short stories, but lately they seem to be all written about the same topics and with the same kind of characters. I found these very boring and decided that I would write my own short stories with two goals in mind:
- That all of my short stories would be totally different from each other.
- I would write them with my good sense of humor and make them literally “laugh out loud” stories.
I think that I have succeeded in reaching both of these goals with FREAKY FICTION: 20 SHORT STORIES.
Following this, my novella entitled CODE NAME: RED ISLAND turned out to be much too long for a short story at twenty eight thousand words. This is why it had to be published as a novella. People really seem to love this story, and it would not have done it justice to shorten the length.
I sincerely hope that readers enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them. – Wayne Courter
